The Experience of Grief

We all face a loss of some kind over our lifetime, whether it be the death of a loved one, a divorce or a significant loss of another kind, we all deal with the grief this causes in different way. The grieving process is a personal and private feeling to each one of us and no two people with go through it in the same way. It can be carried through life over time as one of many things you pick up along the way. It can hit you when you least expect it and rarely do you have complete control over it. You could be driving by a favorite eating location and suddenly become emotional and tear up and must stop the car till it passes. There are a few things you can try to see if it help you if you find those thoughts hard to deal with. Writing about how you feel as a journal for everyday thoughts using pen and paper or even your laptop, will allow your feeling to be expressed in a way that is helpful and define your emotions. Going back later to read what you wrote can help you to understand your feeling in a way that help you overcome them. Each day of your writings will show you how you were feeling and can shed some insight on yourself you didn’t know you had. Listen to your heart because no one can tell you how to grieve. But do allow them to help by just listening to how you feel and by being there for support.
